See Your Work Published!

Bethany Lutheran College’s Inkwell Literary Magazine hosts both its online platform and the physical magazine, Inkwell. It is our goal that all pieces in the print magazine will also be published here, creating a great showcase of students’ creativity. We are dedicated to publishing polished, quality work from students, alumni, staff, and friends of Bethany. We accept multiple submissions, simultaneous submissions, and resubmissions (after editing, of course)!

Web Submissions

On our website, we regularly feature poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, reviews, criticisms, musings on writing and the writing life, and visual artwork. We typically accept written works up to 5,000 words long.

Print Submissions

In Inkwell’s print edition, we typically feature creative work, including poetry, prose, short plays, creative nonfiction, non-English works alongside translations, and visual art. Magazine issues are released annually in the spring, and any piece that we select for online publication will also be considered for the print. Due to space, we rarely consider written works over 2,500 words.

To Submit

Please send your work to the following email address:

Please include in your email the name of the work, the name associated with the piece, a brief author’s bio, and, of course, your original piece. Attach written submissions in a .doc or .docx file. If your work is fiction or poetry, please format it in modern manuscript format. If it is nonfiction, please format it in a standard academic format.

For visual art, please send it in a high quality file .jpeg. Optionally, you may include a commentary on the visual work to be included on the website.

After submission, watch your email for editorial feedback, which is provided during the academic year. Thank you for taking the time to formulate your craft and being so kind as to share it with us!
